Role overview
The Connect-ICU study is focused on using technology to facilitate patient and family-centered care, enhance communication, and strengthen relationships between patients, their families, and healthcare teams in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This national Delphi study, based at the University of Saskatchewan, aims to explore how communication and relationships are fostered in critical care settings and to identify technological solutions that can improve connections and trust. We are seeking participants from three key groups: Those who receive care: Patients, family members, or loved ones with ICU experience. Those who provide care: Nurses, physicians, or other ICU healthcare professionals. Those who facilitate care: Hospital administrators, policy makers, or technology developers. We invite participants to share their insights to inform the development of future communication technologies in ICU environments.
Required knowledge, experience, skills
To be considered for participation, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: Those who receive care: Experience as a patient or family member in an ICU setting. Those who provide care: Professional experience working in an ICU environment, such as nurses, physicians, or allied healthcare staff. Those who facilitate care: Experience in hospital administration, healthcare policy, or technology development in a healthcare context.Time commitment
Duration: The Delphi study will take place over one month, with 2 to 3 rounds of participation. Frequency: Participants will be asked to participate in 2 to 3 rounds of online questionnaires. Each round will require approximately 1 hour to complete. Optional focus group: At the end of the study, participants may attend an optional focus group that will last approximately 1-2 hours. Total time commitment: The total time commitment is expected to be 4 to 5 hours, depending on the number of rounds you participate in and whether you join the optional focus group.

What can you expect from the research team?
As a participant in the Connect-ICU study, you will be supported by a dedicated research team throughout the study. You can expect the following: Clear instructions: Participants will receive detailed guidance on how to engage in the study, including how to complete surveys and provide feedback. Confidentiality and ethics: The study has been approved by the Behavioural Research Ethics Board at the University of Saskatchewan. All personal and sensitive information will be handled with strict confidentiality. Communication: Regular updates on the progress of the study, along with opportunities to provide additional feedback and insights during each round.
